Last Saturday Glenrath Farm Eggs sponsored Peebles travelled the short distance down the road to Philiphaugh to play Selkirk in the first of this season’s Boerder Derbies in RBS Premier 2. Unfortunately they came up against a Selkirk side for whom Fraser Harkness was on fire and lost by 41-18.
The second XV – supported by FIRST XV and rugbystuff.com – were also on the road – to Hawthornden to play Lasswade in the first match of their RBS Reserve League East 1 campaign but returned empty-handed after losing 44-16 their cause not helped by a number of call-offs.
The Colts – supported by BARC again this season – had the long trek over the Border to play Tynedale in a Border Semi-junior League match. The journey home would be all the sweeter with a 12-10 win under their belts however the joy of victory was tempered by the loss of two players to injury – one of whom required treatment in the Borders General - in what was a very physical encounter.
On Sunday the under-16 side lost 17-5 to Gala Red Triangle in a match switched down to Caberston Haugh due to the traffic diversions and road closures in Peebles to accommodate the Tour of Britain. The Peebles club would take this opportunity to thank the Walkerburn club for enabling the game to go ahead by making their facilities available.
Tomorrow Glenrath Farm Eggs sponsored Peebles are back at the Gytes where the face Kelso in another Border Derby in RBS Premier Division 2 – a match sponsored by the Past Captains and Presidents in conjunction with ‘The Tea Ladies and Friends’.
