Uddingston Rugby Club’s slow start to the season continued on Saturday when the 1st XV travelled the short distance to Cumbernauld, going down 55-12, in their RBS West Division 2 league match.
In a one sided affair the Villagers found themselves 38 points adrift at the interval, and the contest effectively over.
Second half tries from Kenny McDermott and Willie Irvine, coupled with a single conversion from Captain Gordon Burns made up the Villagers 12 points as the home side added a further 17 points.
Uddingston’s 2nd XV fared better in their match, overcoming Cumbernauld 2nd XV 12-5 to secure their first league victory of the season.
Both of the Villager’s tries came from good handling and some excellent interplay between forwards and backs. Greg Hutcheon opened the Villager’s account taking an excellent offload from Liam Quinn before powering over the line. Gavin Quinn slotted the conversion from out wide for the extra 2 points.
The second try came from Connor Bradley, again following strong driving and a well-timed offload.
On Sunday it was the turn of the U18 squad to travel to Cumbernauld and the Uddingston Colts came back from North Lanarkshire with a well-deserved victory, 29-12.
Next Saturday, 24/09, the Villagers host Isle of Arran in the second round of the RBS Regional Bowl, while the 2nd XV travel to Lenzie on league duty. Both games kick-off at 3pm.
