Gytes Gossip

Last Saturday saw Glenrath Farm Eggs sponsored Peebles play Falkirk at the Gytes in their final match before the break. With conditions perfect for running rugby much was anticipated by the home support but unfortunately Peebles lost this match by 32 – 11 to remain bottom of the table as we move towards the next phase of the league in January where it will be decided at what level we will be playing next season.. 

The seconds – supported by FIRST XV and rugbystuff.com – hosted Boroughmuir 3rds in an RBS Reserve League East 1 fixture at Hay Lodge Park. In a tight game Boroughmuir came out on top by 18 – 10.

The Colts – supported by BARC – travelled east to the coast at Scremerston to play Berwick Colts in the Border Semi-Junior League, returning with the points after a 17 – 0 win.

Last Wednesday 2nd November saw Peebles High School 1st XV win their Brewin Dolphin Under-18 Plate match against their counterparts from Hawick High to progress to round 3 where they will meet Royal High. No details of date or venue are available yet.

Tonight, at the Gytes, the club under-16 side will play Kelso under-16’s under the floodlights with a 7:00pm kick-off. Why not come down and support some of the club’s future talent?  

Tomorrow sees the start of this season’s Booker Wholesale Border League campaign, which doubles up as a regional cup qualifying match in the RBS National Cup, when Glenrath Farm Eggs sponsored Peebles entertain Jedforest at the Gytes kick-off 3:00pm. This match is sponsored by Archie and John Smellie and their guests. Pitchside catering will be available again by Thomson’s Snack Van.

 Members should note that they can use Bookers via the club account subject to production of both a current membership card and fixture card.

The colts – supported by BARC – have a home fixture against Langholm Colts in the Border Semi-Junior league kick-off 2:00pm.

The High School under 16 side will face Knox Academy at Haddington in the next round of the Brewin Dolphin Under-16 Plate on Friday 18th November kick-off 2:15pm.

Last Saturday a very successful ‘Stars in their Eyes’ night was held in the clubrooms and after an entertaining competition, hosted by the effervescent Dale Clancy, David Paton starring as Tina Turner was declared the winner with Lyndsey Aitchison as Amy Winehouse runner-up.
 Tonight there will be a concert held in the Eastgate Clubrooms by Peebles Concert Band and featuring Tutti Flutti. The concert starts at 7:30.  
 On Friday 18th November at 7:30pm the club will hold a quiz night – teams of 3 – 5 are invited to take part £10 per team – see Davy Cornwall for details.
 The Peebles Piranhas will be holding a race night in the clubrooms on Saturday 19th November. First race goes to post at 7:30pm. Tickets cost £3.
 Saturday 26th November sees the club St Andrews Day celebration starting at 7:00pm. Tickets cost £10 for a Taste of Scotland supper, dance and entertainment. Tickets and further information from Jim Currie.
