Hamilton Youth Development Paying Dividends

At Hamilton Rugby Club the long term strategy of focusing on youth development is paying dividends. For a number of years the Club have employed a full time Development Officer in partnership with the SRU, and the First XV squad is now filled with predominantly local talent. The Club recently gained a top four finish in RBS Premier 2 to secure a place in RBS Premier B - the highest finishing position in their history - and the good news continued at the weekend when another significant milestone was reached. On Saturday the club was able to field two Under 18 squads on the same day, with one squad travelling to Dumfries to play in West Under 18 Division 1, and another squad making the short trip to visit local rivals Uddingston in the West Under 18 Development League. None of players played more than the 70 minutes that is allowed under the age grade laws. This progress is testament to the efforts of the many coaches and volunteers at all levels and of course to the application of the players themselves.
