Lanark Continue Their Top Form

This was unquestionably their best performance of the season and must have given their coaches Ian Fraser and David Masters a real feeling of reward for all their earlier efforts on the training field. For Ian there was cause for some special satisfaction when his son Marcus Fraser opened the scoring with two tries in the first ten minutes.

Moffat, who are currently third in the league, were never allowed to settle and having beaten Lanark at the start of the season could not have expected what was coming.

Conditions were cold and blustery but playing against the wind Lanark had crossed the line for six tries by half time and the score was 36 – 0.

The last of these was a solo effort by former Lord Coronet Geoff Smith who having kicked a loose ball ahead from well outside the 22 metre line found the speed and the legs to win the race to the line.

Lanark’s handling of the ball was secure and their defence solid. Play was seldom near their line and when it was, was always quickly cleared.

With both teams fired up, things at times became a bit feisty. The outcome was a red card being shown to a Moffat touch line reserve who had become unnecessarily involved in exchanges. However his day was not total washout as he subsequently won first prise in the post match raffle back in the club house!

Lanark added a further three tries in the second half with Moffat’s best spell coming in the last ten minutes when their forwards began to control play, denying Lanark possession.

Lanark’s try scorers were; Steve McKeown (3), Marcus Fraser (2), Niall Robertson, Geoff Smith, Andrew Angus and Iain Hughes who also added five conversions.
