With no league fixture this weekend Uddingston shook off the festive blues with a friendly fixture against Lanark at the Racecourse.
With the wind and rain making the open expanse of Lanark’s playing surface a less than hospitable place to spend a Saturday afternoon, the brave souls who faced the elements were treated to an entertaining game of rugby, and for the visiting support a rare away win to bring back to Castle Policies.
The end result of 22-17 for the Villagers was just reward for the efforts they put in but also showed how well Lanark are performing this season, sitting top of RBS West Division 4.
Uddingston’s points came from 4 well worked tries and a single conversion, outscoring their hosts by a single try. Jamie McPherson, Neil Fox, Ruairidh West and Liam Quinn crossed the whitewash while Gordon Burns added the extras from the boot.
Unfortunately for the Villagers’ 2nd XV their scheduled opponents Whitecraigs Rhinos were unable to raise a team and the fixture was cancelled.
Next Saturday, 14th January, the 1st XV travel to Fintry to face Strathendrick while the 2nd XV hosts Lanarkshire rivals Waysiders Drumpellier. Both matches kick-off at 2pm
