Gytes Gossip

Last Saturday Glenrath Farm Eggs sponsored Peebles entertained Whitecraigs as vicitors to the Gytes – after losing an early try it was always going to be an uphill struggle as the men from Glasgow used their big pack to good effect and came away with a bonus point win by 27 – 5 – Peebles consolation score coming late in the second half from David Anderson. This result makes relegation an absolute certainty and Peebles will be playing in the Regional Championship division next season.

The seconds – supported by FIRST  XV and rugbystuff.com – played RHC 2nds in RBS Reserve League East 1 at Hay Lodge winning by 58 - 5.

The Colts – supported by BARC - played Selkirk YC in the 1st round of the Borders Cup and despite a bright start and having a 7 – 0 lead at halftime eventually lost by 39 – 7 meaning that they drop down to the Plate.

Tomorrow both of the senior teams have a blank Saturday with no fixture but the Colts are playing away at Hawick Wanderers in the Borders Plate competition – all support is welcome – kick-off is at 2:00pm.

Tonight the Annual Manor Sheep Dog Trials Dinner Dance is taking place in the Eastgate Clubrooms.

Tomorrow the Gutterbluids Society is holding a fundraising coffee morning in the Eastgate Clubrooms – usual stalls from 10:00am till 12:00 noon. The Gutterbluids do a lot of work for the town and are worthy of a big support for their fundraiser.

Tomorrow also sees Scotland play Ireland in the RBS Six Nations in Dublin – the match which kicks-off at 5:00pm will be shown on the big screen in the Eastgate Clubrooms.

On Friday 16th March there will be a quiz night in the Eastgate Clubrooms when teams of 4 will have their mental abilities put to the test – courtesy of quizmaster and question-setter Davy Cornwall. All proceeds from the night will go to Motor Neurone Charities.

Saturday 17th March is the grand finale of the RBS Six Nations and all three matches will be shown in the Eastgate Clubrooms on the big screen starting with the Italy v Scotland game from Rome which has a 12:30 kick-off. The matches will be rounded off with  a ‘Jim Currie games session’. Later in the evening there will be a St Patrick’s Day disco at 9:00pm.

On Sunday 18th March in the Eastgate Clubrooms at 2:00pm Peebles Concert Band is presenting a concert for children aged 1 - 12 years. It's called KIDS FOR A QUID because that's the price of a ticket - £1.00. Adults may come along but they must be accompanied by a responsible child !! (That just means really young ones must be with their mum and/or dad )
Tickets may be bought at the door. Also on the bill we have the Junior Band playing a short programme and this will be followed by "HAVE A GO" when anyone can have a go at playing one of the spare instruments on display. Who knows what hidden talent might be out there !
On Saturday 31st March Peebles RFC is holding a ‘Take Me Out’ night starting at 7:00pm followed by a disco.
On Sunday 13th May David Swan, wife Jennifer-Anne and a large group of family and friends will be tackling the 22km of the John Buchan Way from Broughton to Peebles on a sponsored walk to raise funds for Alzheimers Scotland in recognition of the support given by the organization when Jennifer-Anne’s father Jimmy Marshall suffered from the disease. Members are asked to support this very worthy cause either by taking part or by sponsoring those who are taking part. Contact David Swan on 07976774279 or email at swansnest@lineone.net
