Under 16 National Selection Round Up - Edinburgh / Borders Regions

The ‘Pro Alignment’ fixtures on Wednesday 14th were both very competitive with Edinburgh Rugby Black edging Glasgow Warriors White in the first game and then two tries all in the second match between Edinburgh Rugby Red and Glasgow Warriors Black. The intensity of the games was a clear step up from the previous week and provided an excellent chance for all of the players to play at a higher level and promote themselves in front of the national under 16 selectors.

Edinburgh Red manager Duncan Anderson seemed very impressed with the standard on display ‘Well done to all of the players involved in the matches tonight. There were two cracking contests with all players contributing to two very competitive games. The players will now need to continue to develop and step up as they move onto the national trial and to Wellington Festival. I wish them all the best and I look forward to hearing how they get on. One final message for the players, nothing just happens – you must make it happen’

When asked about key players that he felt would make an impact at international level Duncan replied ‘I don’t like to single any players out, my role as manager is to support all of the players and ensure they gel quickly as a team. All I know is there is a lot of competition and the selectors have a very hard job.’

Following the completion of these games, 11 players from Edinburgh and 9 players from the Borders, were invited to the National Trial at Murrayfield on the 18th March. This trial day included players from the Scottish exiles programme and gave the players one last chance to showcase their abilities before the Scotland under 16 training squad was picked.
