Gytes Gossip

Last Friday evening Glenrath Farm Eggs sponsored Peebles travelled down to Milntown to play a Booker Wholesale Border League match with Langholm – which was as feisty as is usual with these fixtures giving the fans plenty to discuss in the bar after the game. The result was a 26 – 15 win for Peebles.

The seconds game against Kelso in RBS Reserve League East 1 game was postponed due to Peebles having insufficient players.

Peebles Colts – supported by BARC – travelled east to Berwick for the Border Under-18 Plate Final where Jed Thistle provided the opposition. Peebles supported by a good travelling contingent won a tight encounter by 14 – 0 to lift the trophy and continue what has been a highly successful season. There is still a chance of more silverware for the Colts who play in the RBS Under-18 National Bowl semi-final against their counterparts from Greenock Wanderers at the Gytes on Sunday 22nd April where it is hoped that a bumper crowd will turn out to cheer on the boys who are the future senior club players and are thoroughly deserving of the support for their efforts so far this season.

Tomorrow sees the start of the 2012 Kings of the Sevens Series with the first tournament the Gala Sevens at Netherdale. The format is different this season with 12 teams competing in 4 groups of three with the winners of each group qualifying for the semi-finals. The first tie is at 4:00pm with Peebles drawn to face hosts Gala at 5:55pm and Langholm at 7:03pm.
The Colts – supported by BARC – travel down to Poynder Park for the second of the Semi-junior Sevens where Kelso Harlequins are the hosts.
Sunday 29th April is a date for the diaries – this is the date of the Beatson’s Building Supplies Peebles Sevens leg of the Kings of the Sevens series and as usual there will be something to suit all tastes - young and old – on the day - including the usual refreshment tent - as well as a chance to see some of the country’s top sevens exponents in action.
