Scotland under-20 33 English Counties under-20 16
Five tries, four scored in the second-half, helped Scotland under-20 to victory over their English Counties counterparts at St Andrews University tonight.
Building on their last-gasp win against Italy under-20 last time out, the Scots again finished strongly with three of their scores coming inside the final quarter.
Head coach Peter Wright was satisifed with the result and performance which he said had helped to clarify certain selection issues ahead of Monday's announcement of the 28-strong playing squad for the IRB Junior World Championship in South Africa next month.
Scotland, who trailed 5-11, at the break, scored tries through Robbie Fergusson, the Ayr full-back, George Turner, the Edinburgh Rugby hooker, his EDP colleague, wing Jamie Farndale (2) and Glasgow Hawks' Tom Steven. Jack Steele kicked four conversions.
The visitors' points came from two penalties by stand-off James Stokes and tries by flanker Ben Vernon and substitute Mike Flook but when they had a man sin-binned in the second period, Scotland exploited their numerical advantage and rounded off the game in clinical fashion.
