At the end of August Oban Lorne Rugby Club will celebrate their 50th birthday with a weekend of celebrations at Glencruitten Drive.
The club’s most senior members have put their heads together and organised rugby matches, a dinner and a good old party across Friday 31 August and Saturday 1 September, with players’ young and old, male and female taking the field to lead the festivities.
The party will begin on Friday evening with a meet and greet session followed by a Veterans match which will kick-off at 7.30pm. Then on Saturday their will be a mini and youth rugby tournament at 10am followed by Oban Lorne Ladies versus Lismore at 1pm. The matches will conclude with the 1st XV going head-to-head with their closest rivals Mull at three o’clock.
On Saturday evening (6.30pm) the official celebration dinner will take place with special guest, former Scotland and British and Irish Lion John Beattie speaking and performing with his rock cover band, The John Beattie Band. He will be joined on the stage by speakers Bill Nolan (Scottish Rugby FIRA-AER European Representative) and Scottish Rugby’s new President, Alan Lawson.
The celebration dinner will take place at the Argyllshire Gathering Hall and will cost £25 per head.
