Scotland 7s captain, Colin Gregor, believes his side must be more aggressive at the breakdown and when tackling this weekend if they are to progress in the Nelson Mandela Bay Cup competition.
The Scots face New Zealand (9am, UK time), Fiji (12.28pm, UK time) and England (3.14pm, UK time) on Saturday (8 December) in the third leg of the HSBC Sevens World Series.
Gregor said: “We felt last weekend that we beat ourselves more than our opponents beat us. We let ourselves down and in order to improve we must reduce the number of basic errors we’re making, stick to the framework that we know works for us and we must be more aggressive around the ruck and in our tackles.
“We have been drawn in a very tough group alongside three of the best teams on the circuit, but we’re confident we can cause any team problems. We have played Fiji in every tournament this season so far and each match has been very close.
Against New Zealand it will be crucial to match their physicality and with England in disarray after last weekend we have a real chance to attack them.
“We’re desperate to compete in the Cup competition in Port Elizabeth and to do that we need to perform on day one. This is an area we must improve.”
