Back The Future Of Edinburgh Rugby

Edinburgh Rugby fans are invited to support the club's talent of tomorrow at the first in a series of age-grade clashes next month.

The nation's two professional clubs will field sides at under-16, 17 and 18 in an annual series of inter-city fixtures that are the climax of a revised five-year performance pathway programme."

The games will form part of the national selection process, with Edinburgh Rugby age-grade sides selected from the best of the Borders and Edinburgh matches, and Glasgow Warriors picking from the Glasgow and Caledonia clashes.""

Scottish Rugby's senior academy manager, Grant McKelvey, said: 'these fixtures represent the top three years of our performance pathway, which provides a greater focus on skill and physical development and leads into these increasingly competitive and intense representative matches.""

"From an early age the top players in the country will be aligned the country's two professional clubs, building their association, affiliation and will to win for their respective clubs, with backing of the clubs" fans."

The five-year programme begins with key national theme skills camps for under-14 and 15 year-olds, to which local clubs and schools can nominate their best players.

Selection for the pathway can then, in turn, mean the opportunity to represent the players" respective region on Edinburgh, Glasgow, the Borders or Caledonia, where they will compete for a place in the Edinburgh Rugby and Glasgow Warriors selects.
