The Nicolson Institute girls’ team from Stornoway won the Brewin Dolphin under-18 Shield Final at Canal Park Inverness this afternoon after a 52-31 margin against Argyll & Bute.
Nicolson, who led 24-0 at half-time, were roared on by a vociferous support who had travelled from the Western Isles for the occasion. Coached by Darren Beattie, Nicolson demonstrated slick handling against the more direct and aggressive style of Argyll and Bute.
In the second-half Argyll and Bute started to spread the ball wider and stormed back into the contest narrowing the gap to 38-24 before Nicolson finished the stronger.
Player of the match was Nicolson stand-off Jodi Sinclair who contributed 22 points through two first-half tries and six conversions.
Nicolson’s other points came from tries by Christine Mackinnon, Holly Maclean, Eleanor Smith (2), Abi Mackay and Jenny MacTaggart.
Argyll and Bute’s tries were supplied by Shannon Reynolds, Laura Macallan, Kelly Lamont (2) and Elly McNiven. Kerry Coulthard added three conversions.
