Selkirk High School ran out worthy winners of this years under-16 Brewin Dolphin Scottish Schools Bowl competition, as they defeated Buckhaven High 32-10 at Murrayfield this evening.
Having scored the first try of the evening, the yellow and greens spent the entire match in front, running in six tries, from Liam Blair, Harry Borthwick, Moshin Aziz and three from fly-half Aaron McColm.
Buckhaven managed two tries, either side of half-time through Robert Dick and William Murray, but struggled to contain the Selkirk attack throughout.
Selkirk hat-trick hero, McColm added player of the tournament to his accolades for the evening, thanks to an outstanding display of running rugby.
Speaking after the game, Selkirk director of rugby, Iain Paxton said “I think we maybe had a wee bit more rugby experience than the opposition and that showed in certain areas.
“We managed to defend well, both at the start of the game and periods in the second half where they put pressure on because of their physicality.
“We thought we might be up against a more physical opposition, which was the case, but I think our rugby came through in the end.”
