Boroughmuir 7s a chance to impress Legacy selectors

Following last weekend’s opening leg of the Arnold Clark Legacy 7s at Bridgehaugh, where hosts Stirling County came out on top, there is one more round for players to impress selectors for the Legacy 7s Select team.

Hefin O'HareTomorrow (Friday 26 April), the second leg of the circuit will take place at Meggetland with matches commencing at 6pm.

Legacy 7s Select coaches Richie Maxton and Kenny Murray will be along to draft their team for the Kings of the Sevens Select v Legacy 7s Select match on Sunday 5 May at the Emirates Airline Glasgow 7s at Scotstoun Stadium (kick-off 1.26pm).

Murray said: “The Boroughmuir 7s will give players aiming to be selected for the Legacy 7s squad a final opportunity to impress us.

“A number put their hands up at the Stirling County 7s last Saturday and competition for places promises to be very strong.

“We will monitor players at the Boroughmuir 7s on Friday and following discussion with the club coaches we will select a final squad next week.

“The players who have impressed so far are Grant Strang and Ross Miller from Glasgow Hawks, Miller has had previous experience on the World Series circuit; Brian Archibald and Joff Hope from Stirling County; Chris Mason and Dominic Martin have been strong for Howe of Fife and Hefin O’Hare with his time with Glasgow Warriors and Scotland 7s is looking good for GHA.”

The draw for tomorrow’s Boroughmuir 7s is as follows:

Pool A: Kirkcaldy, Lasswade and Hamilton

Pool B: Boroughmuir, Samurai Scottish and Cartha Queens Park

Pool C: Stirling County, Edinburgh University and Howe of Fife

Pool D: Glasgow Hawks, GHA and Dalziel

Legacy 7s Select v Kings of the Sevens Select - Scotstoun Stadium on Sunday 5 May - 1.26pm

Last weekend Stirling County won the Cup competition, beating Howe of Fife in the final 28-19 and Hamilton beat Dalziel in the Plate final, in a 34-12 victory.

Two more Kings of the Sevens tournaments will take place this weekend with the Langholm (from 2pm) and Peebles 7s (from (1.30pm) being held at Milntown and The Gytes, respectively.

Emirates Airline Glasgow 7s

Scotland are hosting the penultimate leg of the circuit, for a second year, at The Emirates Airline Glasgow 7s, which will take place at Scotstoun Stadium on Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 May 2013.

The Emirates Airline Glasgow 7s is part of the HSBC Sevens World Series.  The event, led by Scottish Rugby, is a partnership with Glasgow Life, Glasgow City Council, the Scottish Government and Event Scotland with the assistance of sportscotland and Glasgow City Marketing Bureau:

  • The HSBC Sevens World Series is a globally recognised event featuring 16 international teams and visiting cities across the world.
  • Glasgow joins the Gold Coast, Dubai, Port Elizabeth, Wellington, Las Vegas, Hong Kong, Tokyo, and London in hosting the competition between 2012 and 2014.
  • Scotstoun Stadium will host 30,000 fans over two days of competition in the penultimate leg of the series.
  • Glasgow is the host city of the Commonwealth Games in 2014 and the HSBC Sevens World Series is a key part in creating a legacy for the games.
