Sevens teams land in Glasgow

A number of the teams who are competing in this weekend’s Emirates Airline Glasgow 7s (Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 May) landed in the city today to begin their preparations for the eighth leg of the HSBC Sevens World Series.

Australia, Kenya and Scotland’s group B opponents New Zealand were all serenaded off their flight by a piper and welcomed onto Scottish soil by members of Camstradden and Langfaulds primary schools, which are located in the north west of the city.

New Zealand’s Tim Mikkelson said: “It has been a long travel but the boys are keen to get settled in and get out there.

“We have Scotland in our group and we’ve been well supported in Scotland before, it’ll be a good game and there’ll be a big crowd behind it.”

Furthermore, after today’s training, Scotland 7s’ Byron McGuigan talked to on his return to the abbreviated team.

He said: “It’s good to be back, the fitness is up another level and we’ve worked through a lot of skills today. Training the last two weeks has been intense and we have to keep building on that, but the boys are looking good.”

On Saturday Scotland 7s will play Portugal (1.04pm), England (4.10pm) and New Zealand (7.21pm) on day one of the Emirates Airline Glasgow 7s, with their day two fixtures determined by these results.
