The Brewin Dolphin Scottish Schools Cup will move into the quarter-final stage, next week, following the first round of action. This also marks the beginning of the Shield competition.
Defending champions, George Watson’s College and Merchiston Castle School, remain in the running for the top trophy, following victories over North Berwick High School under-18s (50-3) and under-16s (25-14), respectively.
In the under-18 competition George Watson’s College now travel to play the High School of Glasgow, while Merchiston Castle School under-16s will host Strathallan School.
In the under-18 and under-16 Cup, the High School of Dundee secured wins in the first round against Trinity Academy (74-0) and the High School of Glasgow (50-0). The under-18s are still to find out their opponents following the match between Glasgow Academy and Edinburgh Academy, while the under-16s take-on Edinburgh Academy in the next round.
Director of Sport at the High School of Dundee, Alan Campbell, said: “We managed to have our under-18 and under-16 matches in the first round on the same day and it turned out to be a really good day of rugby. The weather was great, there were a lot of spectators and we got two wins.
“The matches were very competitive and there was a noticeable lift in our players’ performances because they’re playing in a knockout competition.
“We’re now looking forward to the next round of games. They will be tough as both our sides are playing away, but we’ll work to equip ourselves as best as possible for the challenge. It’s really exciting to have both sides in the next round of the competition.”
In the under-18 Shield competition Trinity Academy will play a prelim match v St Aloysius College, North Berwick High School play Robert Gordon’s College and Bell Baxter High School play Stewart’s Melville College.
In the under-16 Shield competition Selkirk High School have a prelim game v Fettes College and Bell Baxter High School and North Berwick High School go head-to-head in the quarter-finals.
