Game time for sevens ahead of Dubai 7s

Scotland 7s continued their preparations for the second and third legs of the HSBC Sevens World Series, in Dubai and South Africa, in fewer than three weeks time by simulating a full match day at Murrayfield this week.

Colin Gregor at MurrayfieldThe contracted abbreviated players played three matches, split roughly to the same times as would be experienced on the world circuit, against a Scottish Rugby elite development squad and two against the wider sevens squad comprised of club players.

Head coach, Stephen Gemmell, said: “The best way to prepare for a World Series event is to play seven-a-side rugby against competitive opponents, so the day has been very valuable.

“A number of the players we have competed against have had international age-grade experience or outings in the World Series, so it has been good to benchmark ourselves ahead of Dubai, but it has also been good development for the youngsters we’ve played against.”

Scotland 7s will next be in action in the Dubai 7s on Friday 29 and Saturday 30 November where they play Australia (10.10am), Wales (3.02pm) and Spain (5.40pm). All times are local.
