St Aloysius' College 8 George Watson’s College 19

George Watson’s won the Brewin Dolphin Scottish Schools under-16 Cup Final at Murrayfield tonight after an entertaining contest against St Aloysius' College.

George Waton's under-16s win 2013 Brewin Scottish Schools CupThe Edinburgh side, also taking part in the senior final, probably had just too much savvy albeit St Aloysius' defended with a physicality which was welcome, particularly by their animated and vocal support.

That bravery was epitomised by their full-back Joe Skivington who departed injured in the second-half after pulling off a series of saving tackles.  He was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary as a precaution but his injury was not thought to be serious.

Brewin Dolphin Player of the Match, George Watson’s No 8 Kenneth Drummond claimed a try brace, one score before the interval, the culmination of a close-range lineout catch and drive, the second rounding off an attack sparked by Gregor Tait with a rousing embellisment from hard-working lock Calum Eastwood.

St Aloysius', who had opened the scoring with a penalty from stand-off Liam McHugh, did lead early in the second-half after left-wing Aidan McMillan had romped 75 metres down the east stand touchline to score an interception try.

However, it was the Capital side that finished the stronger  with Drummond completing his brace and stand-off Murray Scott adding a third try, both the second-half scores being converted by Fraser Peters.
