Scotland 7s’ top try scorer, Andrew Turnbull, will make his seventh appearance at the Dubai 7s this weekend.
His side lock horns with Australia (6.10am), Wales (11.02am) and Spain (2.40pm) in Group B tomorrow (29 November).
“You never get used to travelling on the World Series, but with age not on my side I want to keep enjoying it as much as I can” said Turnbull.
“I want to relish the opportunity I have to play for my country and keep giving it my best shot.”
With 127 tries to his name and nine years under his belt on the circuit – averaging 14 tries a year – Turnbull is hugely experienced and has a vast knowledge of the game and Scotland’s Dubai opponents. He is also excited by the chance to keep competing, particularly in a season that concludes with a home Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
He continued: “The Dubai 7s is one massive festival, there’s a great atmosphere, it’s hot and there is rugby going on everywhere with the girls’ tournaments, invitationals and veterans’ events alongside the main World Series matches.
“Australia and Wales are two very physical sides, they work very hard and are challenging at the breakdown.
“However, Australia we have come up against recently, we beat them here last year [29-14] and drew with them on the Gold Coast. Whereas Wales we haven’t come up against much in recent years. However, the last time we played them we beat them, 12-10, back in Tokyo in March.
“Finally, Spain, they beat us here last year [12-7], we know that every single game on the circuit is an absolute battle and that we have to impose our game on our opponents, all in, I’m looking forward to an exciting weekend.
This week in training the side have ensured they will be as well prepared as possible for Friday, having had training matches with World Series leaders and Rugby World Cup 7s World Champions, New Zealand and 10th seed, Canada.
The second leg of the HSBC Sevens World Series is available to watch live on Sky Sports 2 on Friday. A live stream is also available all weekend on www.irbsevens.com.
