The Edinburgh Rugby Blitz (#ERBlitz) is back, with the playing squad and staff hitting the road to offer advice and specialist coaching to Cashback Schools of Rugby across the region.
In a widespread of night of rugby, the events get the next generation up close with the playing squad to help develop their skills with training and position-specific advice.
Today's blitz is also to show our backing for the Schools of Rugby programme.
The Schools of Rugby initiative provides schools package of resources enables more staff to deliver a rugby programme across the schools network, including a focused initiative for a number of S1 and S2 pupils, who receive up to five curricular and extra curricular sessions per week.
The broader rugby scheme consists of rugby teams at all ages, opportunities for the development of girls’ teams as well as non-playing opportunities for senior pupils in rugby coaching, refereeing, volunteering and running sport in local primary schools and rugby clubs.
Five hundred S1 and S2 pupils are involved in the focussed course and hundreds more benefit from the broader programme across participating schools.
Approximately quarter of a million pounds each year, from the seized proceeds of crime, is invested to create an environment where rugby makes a significant contribution to the delivery of A Curriculum for Excellence, and plays a central role in the life of the school.
All Schools of Rugby in the east have or will be attending an Edinburgh Rugby game throughout the season, so this is also our way of thanking them for their support!
