Sevens circus moves to pitch tent in Glasgow

After the excitement of this weekend's Hong Kong 7s, the seventh leg of the HSBC Sevens World Series where Scotland lifted the Bowl, the eyes of the world turn to Glasgow for round eight on 3 and 4 May.

The draw for the Emirates Airline Glasgow 7s was made just before the final match in Hong Kong yesterday (Sunday 30 March) with Japan - who won the qualifying tournament at the weekend to become a core side for 2014/15 - joining the party in Scotland.

Sixteen teams will compete in four pool groups on day one in Glasgow, with the tournament hosts selected in Pool D alongside Australia, USA and Spain.

Pool A features Hong Kong Cup winners and current tournament leaders New Zealand with their nearest rivals South Africa, plus Samoa and Portugal. Runners-up this weekend, England, compete in Pool B alongside Canada, France and Japan, while Pool C features Fiji, Wales, Argentina and Kenya.

Scottish Rugby's Director of Commercial Operations, Communications and Public Affairs, Dominic McKay, said: "It was great to see Scotland finish on a high this weekend and we look forward to the side building on that good work for the Glasgow leg, in just over four weeks' time.

"A home crowd, raising the rafters at Scotsoun on 3 and 4 May, will undoubtedly spur our players on as we look forward to welcoming the world of sevens to the city which will, later this summer, be home to the Commonwealth Games.

"It's a great honour for us to host this penultimate leg of the HSBC Sevens World Series in Glasgow, for the third consecutive year and, will again prove a hugely entertaining event for a city that loves to party."

The full match schedule for the Emirates Airline Glasgow 7s will be released in due course.
