Scotland and Glasgow Warriors lock Jonny Gray has scooped a prestigious award as his first season as a full Scotland internationalist draws to a close.
Gray, 20, who has won two full caps this season and has become a mainstay in the Glasgow Warriors team, has been named as Young Player of the Year by Friends of Scottish Rugby.
He received his award, the Sir Willie Purves Quaich, at a gala dinner at the Caledonian Club in London this week.
Previous recipients of the award have included David Denton and Jonny’s older brother, Richie.
Jonny said: “I’m very honoured to have received this award and I thank the Friends of Scottish Rugby for considering me worthy of it.
“My focus now is on a really big end to the season, starting with Glasgow Warriors’ game against Treviso tonight.”
Meanwhile, one of Gray’s successors as captain of the Scotland under-20 team, back-row forward Tommy Spinks, was also lauded at the dinner when he received the Sir Tommy Macpherson Quaich as the young London Scottish Player of the Year.
