Captain of Langholm's Brewin Dolphin Girls under-15 Cup winning team, Rachel Law, had the run of her life yesterday when she took part in the Queen's Baton Relay in Midlothian, ahead of next month's Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
Selected for the honour due to her rugby achievements and the work she does as a sports ambassador within her school, Penicuik HS, Rachel received the baton in the shadow of Rosslyn Chapel from Scottish actor, Brian Cox.
"It was such an honour to be chosen to take part and to receive the baton from such a famous actor - Brian told me to take care as the baton was heavy and to enjoy myself."
In addition to her rugby achievements, Rachel also sits on the Young Ambassador Steering Group for Scotland and has just been selected to be part of the National Young People's Sport Panel, a role she'll carry out for two years.
She said: "I've been part of the Young Ambassador programme for two years now. As part of my role, I've worked with the Midlothian Active Schools project, speaking to primary school pupils in the Penicuik area and with pupils in my own school to encourage them to try new sports and keep active.
"I'm fully aware of the impact sport can have on peoples' lives."
