Fixtures for the 2014/15 season were today announced, along with confirmation that Guinness has become the competition's new title sponsor, which will now be called the GUINNESS PRO12.
The news is the latest development for the tournament, which confirmed Sky Sports will show 33 live matches per season as part of a landmark, four-year deal unveiled in May.
Edinburgh Rugby’s GUINNESS PRO12 season will burst into action on the road against last season’s league and European Champions Cup semi-finalists, Munster, at Thomond Park.
The club will then kick-off their home campaign on the new, state-of-the-art surface at BT Murrayfield, in a clash with Connacht in the second weekend of September.
Head coach Alan Solomons, said: "It's always an exciting time for the players and supporters to learn how the season will start and how it's going to pan out, though first we mst contend with our pre-season fixtures against Leicester Tigers in Melrose and Newcastle Falcons in Hawick.
It's always tough to start your campaign away from home, especially against a team like Munster, as we found last year, however this season we finish against Leinster at home, which is important.
"Elsewhere, the only three games that we have bracketed together on the road - Cardiff, Treviso and Scarlets in February/March - fall in such a way that we have the first two back-to-back, and then a substantial break before playing Scarlets. So, while it will always be difficult to have three away games on the trot, the advantage is that we at least have that break.
"For the rest we have a situation that is alternated home and away, which is fair, and have two home games back-to-back, against Ospreys and Ulster, all of which we are looking forward to."
The match against the Galwaymen will be the second of 15 home games on the 2014/15 season ticket membership, which includes all three home pool games in the European Challenge Cup, and the pre-season friendly against Leicester Tigers at the Greenyards, home of Melrose (15 for the price of eight!).
SEASON TICKET PRICES start at £50 (U18s), £100 (U21s, students and senior citizens) and £180 for adults, for roving memberships.
Dominic McKay, Scottish Rugby’s director of commercial operations, communications and public affairs, said: “It’s great news for Glasgow Warriors and Edinburgh Rugby to have such a strong and iconic brand on board as title sponsor of the PRO12."
McKay, who is also a PRO12 board member and chairman of the commercial committee of the PRO12 added: “Along with the new Sky Sports partnership, this sponsorship deal will undoubtedly have a positive impact on the profile of the league.”
