BBC ALBA to show Friday night double header

BBC ALBA will tomorrow (Friday 13 February) show live back-to-back coverage of Scotland under-20 versus Wales under-20 and Edinburgh Rugby’s Guinness PRO12 clash against Ospreys.

Scottish Rugby’s Director of Commercial Operations, Communications and Public Affairs, Dominic McKay, said: “It’s great for supporters of Scottish rugby to have two live games available to watch tomorrow night.

“The initiative from BBC ALBA to show both games illustrates the growing interest in our game from broadcasters, which in-turn will help develop the reach of rugby throughout the country.

“The under-20 programme sits at the pinnacle of the age-grade system, and combining this match  with the broadcasting of Edinburgh Rugby’s PRO12 game will make for a fantastic night of viewing, one we hope the supporters will enjoy.”

The action gets underway on BBC ALBA at 5.50pm with the under-20s encounter live from Netherdale (kick-off, 5.55pm). Match commentary will be provided by Derek McKay, with Glasgow Warriors, and former Scotland under-20 captain, Tommy Spinks, providing analysis.

BBC ALBA then heads north to Myreside, Edinburgh, with coverage of the PRO12 fixture starting at 7.55pm prior to a 8.05pm kick-off.

Hugh Dan McLennan will provide commentary, with English language commentary from Scott Hastings and John Beattie available through the red button.

As well as the live action, the broadcast will include a half-time feature with Sean Lineen on his role as Scotland under-20 Head Coach, and how optimistic he is about the future of Scottish rugby in the dawn of the new BT Academy structure.

The feature will also include interviews with several of the under-20 players about their progress and development, and pride representing their country.

At the break in Edinburgh Rugby’s PRO12 tie, BBC ALBA present a piece on the host club Watsonians, a rugby club rich in history and tradition, and examine the continuing links it has with one of the most successful school teams in the country, George Watson's College.

The game will also be shown live in Wales on S4C.
