Fleming returns for Las Vegas 7s

James Fleming is the only change to Head Coach Calum MacRae’s Scotland 7s squad to compete in the Las Vegas event this weekend (4-6 March).

The full-time Scotland 7s player has recovered from a hamstring injury to travel to Las Vegas for round five of the World Rugby HSBC Sevens Series, replacing BT Sport Scottish Rugby Academy player Nick Grigg, who was a member of the squad in Wellington and Sydney.

Fleming, a product of Perthshire, has amassed 320 points through 64 tries in his 27 World Series caps.

The rest of the squad remains as the previous rounds, with Glasgow Warriors’ Junior Bulumakau and Fraser Lyle again joining the Scotland 7s core to compete in the United States.

Scotland face Australia and England in Pool B on the first day of proceedings, before taking on Japan in the final game of the group stages on day two.

Head Coach Calum MacRae said: “ I’m delighted to welcome James back into the squad for Las Vegas.  He was our most improved player last year and put in some outstanding performances.  Having worked hard to come back from his injury, he can’t wait to get back into the arena.

“He adds genuine finishing ability to the team with his pace and his try scoring record speaks for itself.

"Fraser Lyle is a very consistent performer and will slot back into the fold.  His work ethic is top drawer and puts a big shift in every tie he plays.  As he continues to gain more experience on the Series, I can see him having more influence on the games.

“It’s pleasing to see the continued development of the 15-a-side players within the programme.

“The players are looking forward to the challenges that Australia, England and Japan pose in what is a very competitive pool.”
