Scotlan under-20 in Font Romeu: The camp draws to a close

Scotland under-20 have travelled to the French Pyrenees for high altitude training camp ahead of their World Rugby Under-20 Championship campaign, following in the footsteps of their senior counterparts who travelled to the same Font Romeu facility prior to the 2015 Rugby World Cup.

The camp has received significant funding through Erasmus+, a programme established by the European Commission that allows students and employees to experience cultural and work exchanges throughout Europe, through vocational and educational training.

Scotland under-20 players will be giving us an insight into the camp through blog updates, with lock Callum Hunter-Hill giving us his thoughts on the final weekend in the French Pyrenees:

"With having a hit-out against France under-20 on Friday night, we indulged in a bit of a lie in to help the bodies get the rest needed.

"We kicked started our day with what we call a ‘primer’ weights session in which we use high volume at low reps to get testosterone levels back up after resting.

"It was then time for a walk-through and a couple of small sided games as part of our match preparations.

"Approaching game-time, the boys rested up before embraking on the two hour journey to the ground in Perpignan. Despite the journey being tiring, the incredible scenery going through the Pyrenees made the two hour trip a lot easier."

GAME TIME! France win 36-20 in a closely-contested hit out at Stade Aime Giral, Perpignan.

"The players were understandably disappointed after the game, as these are games we should be winning,  but there are a lot of positives to be taken from the performance.

"Saturday, our last day in camp, was spent recovering from, and reviewing, our game the night before.

"There were a few sore bodies after a tough and physical game.

"However, the review session proved extremely worthwhile and positive, and there’s a lot we should be excited about going into the forthcoming World Rugby Under-20 Championship.

"To round off the day, and the trip, the boys took to the [golf] course, followed by a barbeque, which proved a great chance to relax and reflect on a very productive week in Font Romeu.

"We’re all looking forward to getting underway with the World Championship."
