New Scotland 7s kit unveiled

The Scotland 7s home and alternate playing kit, which the side will proudly wear on the world- stage in the 2016/17 season, was today revealed.

Both kits are innovative designs, reflective of the popular jerseys worn by Scotland in front of record crowds at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

The team’s primary strip will feature the traditional navy blue of Scotland, with red and gold stripes around the body of the top, inspired by the Lion Rampant, a national symbol of bravery, strength and valour.

The alternate kit is red, with a blue presence and flashes of gold.

Conducive to the playing demands of the abbreviated game, and in consultation with the national team players, Macron has developed a technical fabric incorporating non-stretch, breathable front and back panels in the strip to allow for optimum conditions and comfort, especially key as the team will again compete in the heat on many legs of of the World Rugby HSBC Sevens Series

Match tops will be skin-tight, yet regular fit replica shirts will also be available to supporters.

Scottish Rugby’s Chief Operating Officer Dominic McKay, said:

“We are delighted Macron has once again produced a first-class strip for our national 7s side, which is both striking in terms of design and advanced in its technical specifications.

“Macron and the Scotland 7s playing group have been in close communication over the past season, which has proved a positive relationship in terms of developing the best product possible.”

Macron Chief Executive Officer Gianluca Pavanello, said: "It has been an exciting year for Scotland 7s with a historic Cup win at Twickenham, a top 10 finish in the World Series rankings and many players selected GB 7s, the wider training squad for this summer’s Olympic Games in Rio.

“We really wanted to celebrate their achievements with jerseys that match their calibre as well as paying homage to the home of the abbreviated game.

“Our close working relationship with Scottish Rugby has allowed us to achieve a new fabric and shirt template that we know brings true innovation to the game of sevens, while also using Macron’s Italian designers’ influence to give the fans  a unique product.”

The players will first wear the kit when they compete in the inaugural event of the 2016/17 World Series, in Dubai.

Scott Wight, who lead the team as captain in the 2015/16 season, welcomed the new kit.

He said:

“It’s been great to have been a part of the design process, and the squad is delighted with the finished article.

“We’re looking forward to building on our success in London, and doing the strip and the badge proud on this year’s circuit.”

The kit is available to buy along with the new summer training range at the Scottish Rugby Store at BT Murrayfield on Friday 1 July, as well as online at shop.scottishrugby.org. The kit will subsequently be available to purchase at all other Macron stockists from Saturday 2 July.
