He is joined in signing a professional contract, from 1 January 2017, by fellow Academy member Matt Smith.

Speaking to glasgowwarriors.org about signing a professional contract Lewis said: “It’s a dream come true to sign a contract with Glasgow and to be able to say that I'm a professional rugby player is a fantastic feeling.

“At the start of the season I didn’t expect to get the opportunities I have, but I feel I have given a good account of myself and I've learnt so much as part of the squad.

“Going forward I want to pull on the Warriors jersey as much as I can and continue to learn and develop.”

Matt Smith said: “I’m delighted to sign my first professional contract and I'm looking forward to showing Warriors fans what I can do.

“I'm learning all the time and I'm excited about the opportunity to develop as a member of the Warriors squad.”

Glasgow Warriors head coach Gregor Townsend said: “It is a testament to the work that is put in from the coaches and players in the BT Sport Scottish Rugby Academy, that two more players have come through and earned the opportunity to become professional players.

“Lewis has taken the opportunities he's had already this season and works incredibly hard at training and during games.

“Matt has shown in a Scotland U20s shirt just what he is capable of and he will flourish by spending time with the back-row players we have here at Glasgow.”

BT Sport Scottish Rugby Academy manger fo Glasgow and the West, Jamie Dempsey added: "It’s great to see another two players from the BT Sport Scottish Rugby Academy sign professional contracts with Glasgow Warriors.

“Lewis has stepped up this season and has made a big impact with the Warriors, while Matt has a big future ahead of him having featured regularly for Scotland U20s.”
