Davidson and Grove-White selected for Commonwealth Games & World Rugby Sevens

Scottish Rugby elite referees, Hollie Davidson and Sam Grove-White, have been selected to officiate at the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games as well as the men’s and women’s HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series 2017/18, respectively.

For Davidson and Grove-White, it is the first time they have been appointed to a Commonwealth Games, having enjoyed successful performances on the World Rugby Sevens Series 2016/17.

Davidson has recently been appointed to the 2017 Women’s Rugby World Cup officials panel where she will take her position on the world stage today (Wednesday 9 August), when the tournament kicks-off in Ireland.

She said: “I am delighted to be selected for both the Commonwealth Games and the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series next year.

I cannot wait for the year ahead and I’m very thankful for the opportunities to develop my refereeing at such world class events, as I also look forward to refereeing at the Women’s World Cup this week.”

Grove-White was selected as the man in the middle for the HSBC Hong Kong Sevens final between South Africa and Fiji earlier this season and has also formed part of the Scottish contingent on the Guinness PRO12 referee panel.

He said: “I’m very excited to be back involved with the World Rugby Sevens Series after an enjoyable and rewarding debut season.

It is an added bonus to be selected for the Commonwealth Games, it is a huge event and it will be an honour to represent Scottish match officials at the top level.”

Tappe Henning, Scottish Rugby’s Referee Commissioner, said: “The selection of both Sam and Hollie for these tournaments comes off the back of good performances across the sevens circuit and within Scottish Rugby’s High Performance structure.

“Top performances in these tournaments will result in potential selection for the 2018 Rugby World Cup Sevens in San Francisco, so it is a fantastic opportunity for two of our contracted referees."
