BT Women’s Premier League PREVIEW | Stirling County aim to take the game to Wanderers

Stirling County host Murrayfield Wanderers in their first match since the split in the BT Premier League this Sunday (3December, kick-off 2pm).

The home side booked their place in the top half in the last round of matches before the division and it marks an important step in their progress since being promoted to the BT Women’s Premier League in 2013.

Stirling County Team Manager, Lara Flint, said: “Our current position in the top four is a reflection of the dedication by all our current and past players.

“This commitment has continued throughout the season, and combined with an influx of new players, has allowed us to work on skills and game strategies.

“The coaches have done a fantastic job of getting us into shape, both physically and mentally, to start being a competitive side and we hope to become a challenge for the top table opposition.

This weekend sees the usual challenge of us playing a team who have been a constant at the top of the table for the last few years. Despite facing a very experienced squad with a number of international players, we are confident we can give them a competitive game and show them what we are capable of.”

The visitors are wary of the challenge they face against a team on the rise but have found their own form recently with two strong victories.

Murrayfield Wanderers Coach, Steve Turnbull, said: “We're looking forward to a tough encounter this weekend against Stirling.

“I'm very pleased with the improvements we've made throughout the season, which is all thanks to the hard work out on the training pitch on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.

“It is an extremely competitive league in the top four and any team can beat anyone so we will be going in to the game on Sunday against Stirling fully expecting a tough battle. They are a physical team, and will take the game to us and be confrontational. We will have to be on top of our game and match their physicality if we want to come away with the win.”

Elsewhere this Sunday, RHC Cougars welcome Hillhead/Jordanhill in the other BT Premier League A fixture.

In BT Premier League B, Watsonians welcome Stewartry and Ayr will target a first victory when they host Cartha Queens Park.
