Scotland Women name team for Six Nations opener

Scotland Women have named their team for the opening match of the Women’s Six Nations against Wales this Friday (2 February, Parc Eirias, Colwyn Bay, kick-off 6pm).

The match-day squad includes all four of Scotland’s full-time professionals with six players set to make debuts.

Scotland Women Head Coach, Shade Munro said: “The continuity in the squad is testament to the performances and effort the players have put in over the season.

“But it’s about ensuring we have competition for places and our best players on the pitch.

“We had our most successful Six Nations for a number of years in 2017 so we are keen to kick on and keep improving across the park.”

Liz Musgrove and Megan Kennedy will win their first Scotland caps after being named in the starting line up.

Siobhan McMillan could earn her first cap should she come off the bench into the front-row to join her sister, Louise, in the pack.

Jodie Rettie, Siobhan Cattigan and Mags Lowish have been named as substitutes and could also make their Scotland bows in the forwards.

In the backline, full-time professional, Lisa Thomson lines up alongside captain, Lisa Martin, in the centres. Thomson’s clubmate and fellow professional, Chloe Rollie, starts at full-back.

Scotland beat this Wales and Italy in last year’s competition and lost narrowly to Ireland in their home games and will be targeting a Championship win on the road when they travel for the return fixtures.

Munro said: “Away matches always pose a challenge and our results against our opponents last year showed how evenly matched we are but we are confident in the game we play and are focusing on ourselves.

“To be playing our home games at Scotstoun is fantastic, it’s a great venue and the crowd always lifts the players so we’re really looking forward to making it a home.”

Scotland Women Continue their campaign with two home matches against France (Saturday 10 February, kick-off 7.05pm) and England (Friday 23 February, kick-off 7.05pm) respectively.

The team then travel to Ireland (Donnybrook Stadium, Sunday 11 March, kick-off 1pm) and close the tournament against Italy the following week (Stadio Plebiscito, Sunday 18 March, kick-off 3pm).
