BT Premiership PREVIEW | Still all to play for on derby day

Boroughmuir host Watsonians tomorrow (17 February, kick-off 3pm) at Meggetland in an Edinburgh derby, a week on from their fierecely contested BT Cup clash.

Last week’s hosts, Watsonians, won 29-24 to continue their winning streak and remain on track for a play-off place.

Their derby opponents, Boroughmuir, are aiming to avoid the relegation play-offs in what will be a vital game for both clubs.

‘Muir currently have a game in hand to rivals, Hawick, and a win could put them ahead of the Borders club in the race to stay up.

Watsonians find themselves in a three-way battle with both Currie and Ayr to secure a top two finish and home advantage in the play-offs.

Boroughmuir Head Coach, Peter Wright, knows his team must improve on last week’s performance.

Wright said: “Back to back games against the same team are never easy but last week’s result was disappointing.

We gave Watsonians a head start, something we must avoid this week. If last week is anything to go by this is going to be a cracker.”

Wright makes only one change to his starting line-up after last week, with Ryan Montgomery coming in for Dale Robertson.

The visitors look to be on good form but Watsonians Head Coach, Steve Lawrie, recognises the constant need to improve.

Lawrie said: “It was a tight affair in the end last weekend and we were pleased to get the result that allowed us to advance to the next round of the BT Cup.

In training this week we have worked hard on improving our defence and discipline whilst consolidating our work in attack. This weekend’s game represents another must win for both sides as we return to league action.”

Lawrie makes three changes to his squad with James Miller and Ewan Miller starting in place for Gregor Nelson and Rory Steele. Andrew O’Neil also replaces Kieran Watt who is away on U18 national duty this weekend.

Elsewhere tomorrow, Currie Chieftains face Marr at 2.30pm. Hawick travel to Ayr, Melrose take on Heriot’s, and Stirling County play Glasgow Hawks, all kicking-off at 3pm.
