Gregor Townsend and John Dalziel join Scottish Coaching Conferences

Two of world rugby’s most respected coaches have been added to the bill to present at Scottish Rugby’s Regional Coaching Conferences this year.

Scotland Head Coach Gregor Townsend will present on attacking principles at the Edinburgh event on Friday 13 April and John Dalziel, Head Coach of Scotland 7s, will focus on defence and breakdown at the Borders & East Lothian conference on Saturday 2 June.

Four regional conferences take the place of Scottish Rugby’s usual National Coaching Conference and provide an opportunity to hear from the country’s top coaches and learn about the latest developments.

Last year’s National Coaching Conference saw over 160 coaches from across Scotland attend BT Murrayfield.

Townsend said: “I’m delighted to be playing a part in the continuing development of coaching at all levels in Scotland.

We hope to see as many coaches as possible at each of the regional conferences to broaden their knowledge of the game and pick up new skills to pass on to players across the country.”

Townsend and Dalziel join former England Head Coach Brian Ashton MBE and High Performance Coach Development Consultant Richard Shuttleworth, who have both worked at the highest levels of elite sport and are already confirmed as keynote speakers at the conferences.

The conferences run between April and June for Edinburgh, Caledonia, Borders & East Lothian and Glasgow & The West.

Neil Graham, Scottish Rugby’s Head of Training & Education (Domestic Rugby), said: “We’re delighted to announce that Gregor Townsend and John Dalziel will be presenting at our conferences in the coming months.

They offer unrivalled insight and expertise having coached at the very highest levels in rugby.

“Tickets are selling fast for all four conferences so we would recommend booking tickets early to avoid disappointment.”

The conferences will be delivered in partnership with the BT Sport Scottish Rugby Academy regions and will involve both practical and indoor sessions.

More speakers are to be confirmed for each conference and this year will continue the focus on Scottish Rugby’s Technical Blueprint, ‘The Scottish Way’, which aims to develop a quality game through a core set of principles based around rugby speed.

Tickets are £10 and those attending the Edinburgh conference will have the option to include a ticket for Edinburgh Rugby’ match versus Scarlets at the national stadium the following day (kick-off 3.15pm) for only an additional £5.
