Sarah Beaney Cup PREVIEW | Hills aim for double as County look to add to club representation

BT Women’s premier league champions Hillhead/Jordanhill welcome Stirling County in the semi-finals of the Sarah Beaney Cup this Sunday (8 April, kick-off 2pm) as they look to end the season with a league-cup double.

Hills came through their quarter-final match against Cartha Queen’s Park with an emphatic victory away earlier this month.

The dominant 85-0 score-line will give Hillhead a lot confidence as they aim to make it to ‘Silver Saturday’ (28 April) and retain the cup at BT Murrayfield.

Stirling County secured their place in the semi-final after a 29-19 victory over RHC Cougars last month.

County have produced some impressive performances this season, improving on previous years and finishing in the top half of the BT Women’s Premier League.

The Glasgow side claimed the BT Women’s Premier League with a 79-5 win over Stirling earlier this year, having narrowly lost out to cup rivals Murrayfield Wanderers in the last three Premier League title fights, and were clinical in securing the silverware, a performance they will be hoping to repeat this weekend.

Hillhead/Jordanhill Head Coach, Thomas Davidson said: “So far this season has been fantastic for the team. Having already secured the league, our attention has turned to aiming to win and retain the Sarah Beaney Cup.

The girls commitment and effort has been faultless.

“Stirling County have continued to improve over the course of the season and will provide a tough, physical encounter on Sunday, as always. We’re excited for this semi final.”

With Scotland internationalists Megan Kennedy and Siobhan Cattigan in their squad, Stirling will be hoping for the win to progress to the final on ‘Silver Saturday’ at BT Murrayfield where a strong Stirling support will already be out in force with the men’s side playing Melrose in the BT Men’s Cup Final.

Stirling County Head Coach, Rob Storey, said: “Hills are a strong side that beat us convincingly at our last meeting, but we continue to improve in all aspects of our game and we hope to make them work much harder this time.

“Maybe we can provide the shock of the season and stop their league and cup double attempt.”

Elsewhere, Murrayfield Wanderers meet Watsonians in an Edinburgh derby.
