BT Women’s Premier League PREVIEW | On form Watsonians target more success

Watsonians travel to Cartha Queen’s Park this Sunday (15 April, kick-off 2pm) following a dramatic victory in the cup and with an unbeaten post-split season on the cards.

The Edinburgh outfit have conceded just ten points in four games since the end of November and have been the stand-out team in the BT Women’s Premier League B.

‘Sonians were just one win short of confirming a top-half finish in their first season back in the top flight and have since banished that disappointment with some impressive performances, culminating with a stunning 43-46 win over Murrayfield Wanderers last weekend.

The victory means they will take on league champions Hillhead/Jordanhill at Silver Saturday (28 April) but Watsonians still have two games to come in the league campaign before appearing at the home of Scottish rugby.

Watsonians Head Coach Dave Flynn said: “We will be resting a few sore bodies following the pleasing Sarah Beaney Cup semi-final but Cartha are particularly strong in a few areas and have some excellent individual players which means they are never a team to be taken lightly.”

While they will be determined to put in another impressive performance this week preparations have already started for the showpiece final at the end of April.

Flynn added: “This game also gives some of our wider squad the change to compete for a place in the Sarah Beaney final squad so it is a fixture we are looking forward to.”

Elsewhere, Ayr host Stewartry and RHC Cougars welcome Stirling County as the home side aim to claim a first win after the league split.
