Elms and McLennan join up with squad for Singapore

Harvey Elms and Nick McLennan have joined up with the Scotland 7s squad ahead of next weekend’s tournament in Singapore as the Glasgow Warriors contingent return home.

George Horne, Ruaridh Jackson and Lee Jones will all return to Scotstoun after competing in Hong Kong and on the Gold Coast and have been replaced by core 7s half-back pairing Elms and McLennan.

Team Scotland finished sixth at last weekend’s Commonwealth Games and John Dalziel's men progressed from their group to the Cup competition in Hong Kong the week before.

They have been drawn alongside Commonwealth Champions New Zealand in their pool plus Australia and Wales, both of whom they played on day two of the games.

Scotland 7s Head Coach John Dalziel said: “The boys have put a lot into the last two and a half weeks, getting up to 9th place in the series and with another two weeks before we get into action in Singapore the players are having a couple of days in Australia to rest, recharge and recover.

“With the Commonwealth Games bolted in-between two World Series events, it makes this an extremely challenging trip, spending 4 weeks away from home and 3 demanding competitions.

“The boys are determined to finish the block well and with the Commonwealth Champions New Zealand as well as Australia and Wales in the group, we face another enormous challenge.

“Confidence in our individuals and our performances gives us great belief and we will prepare accordingly.”
