Sarah Beaney Cup Final PREVIEW | Hillhead/Jordanhill v Watsonians

Hillhead/Jordanhill take on Watsonians in the Sarah Beaney Cup final as they look to retain the title and finish the season with the double.

The Glasgow side sailed through their semi-final beating Stirling County (42-7) to secure their place in the final after an impressive run of results since being crowned BT Women’s Premier League champions earlier this year.

Hillhead/Jordanhill Head Coach Thomas Davidson is excited by his side’s prospect of ending the season with the double.

He said: “We’re absolutely delighted to make the Sarah Beaney Cup Final where we are hoping to defend our title.

“Having not played Watsonians all season, we’re excited by the prospect of the encounter and following their victory and points tally against Murrayfield Wanderers, we’re preparing ourselves to play against an attacking team.

Our aim this season has always been to win the double, and we’re hoping to complete that goal on Silver Saturday.”

Hills have lost just one match in all competitions this season away to last year’s BT Women’s Premier League winners Murrayfield Wanderers.

Watsonians secured their place in the final after a shock win over Wanderers who have appeared in the Sarah Beaney Cup final every year since 2014.

It is part of a great run of form for the Edinburgh side who were only promoted to the top flight this season.

Since the league split in November ‘Sonians have won six from six with their unbeaten run stretching back to the fifth game of the season.

Watsonians Head Coach Dave Flynn said: “The ladies have stepped their performances up in each round of the cup this season.

We have a bit to work on before then as playing this season’s league champions at BT Murrayfield will mean we must step up again.”

On Saturday Watsonians will proudly play with the letter H rather than a number eight shirt in memory of club stalwart Keri Holdsworth who sadly died in June 2014. Every member of the team will also play with her initials on their sleeve as they aim to win their first cup final.

A team and club great, both on and off the pitch she loved being part of the Watsonians family.

The Sarah Beaney Cup Final kicks off at 2.30pm on the international pitch at BT Murrayfield.
