Official team travel partnership takes flight

Scottish Rugby today unveiled Thomas Cook Sport as its Official Team Travel Partner until 2022.

The partnership will see the specialist sports division of leading leisure travel provider, Thomas Cook - who work with Guinness PRO14, Gallagher Premier League, Scottish and English Premiership football teams – manage the travel arrangements for Scotland teams of all levels, from senior Scotland men and women’s sides to and through all age-grade representative teams, ensuring consistency and safety across the board.

Over the last two seasons the Scotland men’s team have visited eleven countries in five continents, travelling more than twice the circumference of the earth as preparations continue for the forthcoming Six Nations and Rugby World Cup in Japan.

Head of Thomas Cook Sport, Rob Slawson, said: “The role we play is to take any stress of travel away from the team, so they can focus fully on preparing and competing. We take the worry away from arranging aircraft, bedrooms and travel logistics around the globe.

“It’s a pleasure and honour to be trusted by any team or organisation to facilitate their travel. It’s often an undervalued or underestimated component of a team’s performance and we take great pride in our duty of care for players and staff to ensure a stress-free journey to fixtures and venues, which can have an impact on performance.”

Toni Blackhurst, Head of Marketing & Sponsorship added: “Thomas Cook Sport have worked with Edinburgh Rugby for a number of years and we’ve been very impressed with the quality of service they’ve provided, so we're delighted to strengthen that partnership today by welcoming them into the Scottish Rugby family of partners.

“Managing the travel arrangements of an entire playing squad, support staff and scores of kit bags and equipment on long-haul, cross-continental, or even local, European, travel is a huge logistical exercise. Teaming up with a partner with the scale, experience and expertise as Thomas Cook Sport is fantastic news for our teams.”

Scotland Women regularly travel throughout Europe to play in the Women’s Six Nations as do Scotland Women 7s who have competed in the Czech Republic, France, Hungary and Russia over the past two seasons.

The Scotland U20 team play in the World Rugby U20 Championship annually and most recently travelled to France and Georgia.

Scotland and Edinburgh centre, Matt Scott, said: “Travelling is such a huge part of the build-up for matches so having the backing of such a respected company stands us in really good stead.

“I’ve been lucky enough to visit some incredible places with Scotland and I hope that I get the chance to continue that with Thomas Cook Sport behind us.”
