Bob Easson wins 'Coach Developer of the Year 2018' Award

Scottish Rugby would like to congratulate Bob Easson after being awarded ‘Coach Developer of the Year’ at the sportscotland Coaching, Officiating & Volunteering Awards at Glasgow City Chambers on Thursday evening.

Easson, 71, who supports the mentoring of up and coming coaches through Scottish Rugby’s delivery of the UKCC Level 4 qualification, has also overseen the development of some of Scotland’s most iconic rugby stars, including Chris Cusiter, Mike Blair and Euan Murray.

He has also played a part in helping some of Scotland’s aspiring coaches from a variety of sports, including boxing.

Bob is currently Director of Rugby at Edinburgh Academical FC where he supports the development of coaches and volunteers throughout the player pathway from youth to senior.

His love affair with rugby first started back in 1969 at Cupar Secondary School as a player and then coach.

He was honoured during sportscotland’s Coaching, Officiating & Volunteering Awards and the Edinburgh Academicals stalwart was delighted to be presented with the award said,

“I am extremely honoured to receive this award. Coaching is central to athlete development and I am delighted to have been able to contribute. I would like to give my grateful thanks to those who nominated me for this award. Your support is hugely appreciated.”

In a coaching career that started all those years ago, Bob recollects his influencers and inspirations,

“I was first inspired by a man called Bill Dickinson who coached at Jordanhill College in the middle 60’s. He was the first ever Coach to the Scotland National Rugby Team and a coach who was way ahead of his time!”

“I have also been inspired by the many talented, passionate and aspiring coaches I have had the pleasure of working with.”

Scottish Rugby’s Head of Education and Training, Neil Graham said, “Bob is a fantastic mentor for some of our developing coaches and is a true great in the world of coaching and coach development. Congratulations on the award Bob and a huge thanks for your hard work in helping Scottish Rugby develop our next generation of coaches”
