Scotland 7s

Scotland’s top points scorer in IRB Sevens events, Colin Gregor, has been called into the Scotland 7s squad for the last two legs of the 2006/07 IRB Sevens World Series – the Emirates Airline London Sevens (26 & 27 May) and the Emirates Airline Edinburgh 7s (2 & 3 June). In addition to Gregor’s inclusion in the squad, Edinburgh Rugby utility back, Ben Cairns, will make his return to the international sevens stage for the final two events along with Mark Robertson who has recovered from a wrist injury suffered in the third leg of the series in Wellington, New Zealand. The Emirates Airline Edinburgh 7s is the climax of the IRB Sevens World Series and the tournament that will see the crowning of the IRB Sevens World Series champions. It will feature the world’s top teams over two days of fast flowing, skilful and dynamic international rugby sevens together with a fun-packed Festival of Rugby on the back pitches, making it the ‘not-to-be-missed’ rugby event of the summer. Ahead of today’s squad announcement press conference at Edinburgh Castle, head coach Stephen Gemmell said: “We have once again assembled a strong squad with all players now having sevens experience from this year or previous years. “It is also encouraging to welcome Colin Gregor and Ben Cairns into this squad, both of whom made their name in sevens before turning professional. “We have a strong and exciting squad which I’m confident will continue to build on Scotland’s standing in the IRB Sevens World Series. “We are looking to put in our strongest performances over the final two legs and give everyone who comes along to the home of Scottish rugby, Murrayfield, in June something extra to cheer about.” Scotland 7s have reached the quarter-finals of the Cup competition on day two of the last three tournaments in San Diego, Hong Kong and Adelaide, making them one of the top-eight sides for London and Edinburgh. Those campaigns saw Scotland fend off the challenges from countries such as Argentina and Australia. At Twickenham, the Scots have been drawn alongside title chasers New Zealand, who are only 14 points off the top spot in the IRB Sevens Standings, as well as Italy and Kenya, who are only two points behind Scotland. In the final leg at Murrayfield, the Scots have been drawn against current fourth place side South Africa, who lifted the Emirates Airline Dubai Sevens title in December with a 31-12 win over New Zealand in the Cup final. Completing the pool are Canada and Hong Kong Sevens Bowl-winners, Russia. Tickets are available now for the Emirates Airline Edinburgh 7s at the great value price of only£10 for one day or just£15 for both (with FREE concessions on all pre-booked tickets).   SCOTLAND 7s: Mike Adamson (Glasgow Warriors & Glasgow Hawks), Ben Addison (Glasgow Warriors & Stirling County), Ben Cairns (Edinburgh Rugby & Currie), Simon Cross (Edinburgh Rugby), Max Evans (Glasgow Warriors), Scott Forrest (Border Reivers & Hawick) CAPTAIN, Calum Forrester (Glasgow Warriors & GHA), Roddy Grant (Border Reivers & Gala), Colin Gregor (Glasgow Warriors), Mark Robertson (Border Reivers & Melrose), Colin Shaw (Glasgow Warriors), Colin White (Glasgow Warriors & Ayr) The draw for the Emirates Airline London Sevens (26 & 27 May):Pool A – Fiji, France, Argentina, RussiaPool B – Samoa, Australia, Canada, GeorgiaPool C – New Zealand, Scotland, Kenya, ItalyPool D – South Africa, England, Wales, Portugal Scotland 7s’ fixtures on day one (Saturday 26 May) of the Emirates Airline London Sevens:10:50am, Scotland 7s v Italy 7s1:56pm, Scotland 7s v Kenya 7s5:35pm, New Zealand 7s v Scotland 7s The draw for the Emirates Airline Edinburgh 7s (2 & 3 June):POOL A – Fiji, Australia, Kenya, PortugalPOOL B – Samoa, France, Wales, ItalyPOOL C – South Africa, Scotland, Canada, RussiaPOOL D – New Zealand, England, Argentina, Georgia Scotland 7s’ fixtures on day one (Saturday 2 June) of the Emirates Airline Edinburgh 7s:11:46am, Scotland 7s v Russia 7s2:52pm Scotland 7s v Canada 7s5:58pm South Africa 7s v Scotland 7s Emirates Airline Edinburgh 7s ticket prices and packages:- One day adult ticket -£10, free concession ticket with all pre-booked adult tickets- Two day adult ticket -£15, free concession ticket with all pre-booked adult tickets- Buy on the day adult ticket -£10 and concessions£5- 7 Pack (Family) – 1 day£30.
