Scotland Women prepare for Women’s RWC qualifiers

Scotland Women are preparing for two matches in November for a place at next year’s Women’s Rugby World Cup in Ireland.

The team will face the winners of the Rugby Europe Women’s Championship, which is being held in Madrid and will conclude on Saturday 15 October.

The two-legged play-off will see Scotland Woman play at home and away next month with details to be confirmed once the opposition is known this weekend.

Spain, ranked 9th in the world, are the favourites to win the Championship featuring Belgium, Czech Republic, Russia, Switzerland and the Netherlands.

Scotland Women Head Coach Shade Munro said: “The Scotland Women squad is already working hard to prepare to play for a place at next year’s Women’s Rugby World Cup and to build on the momentum achieved last season, through improvements in various aspects of the game.”

We have increased the number of training camps this season and the players are working on skills and fitness back at their clubs and with the BT Sport Scottish Rugby Academy.

“The additional training matches against Lichfield and Wales have been included to ensure we get game time ahead of the play-offs in November, while the match in Cardiff will also provide a good benchmark of progress to date for the squad.”

Scotland Women faced English Women’s Premiership club Lichfield last month in a training match and won 24-5.

This month they will travel to Cardiff during a training camp to play a friendly against Wales Women.

Results from the Women’s Championship are available on the Rugby Europe website.
