Sean Maitland

Sean Daniel Maitland made a try-scoring debut for Scotland against England at Twickenham in the nation's opening match of the 2013 RBS 6 Nations Championship,

He went on to start every match of the 6 Nations that year and, following a sequence of fine club and country showings, was rewarded with selection for the British & Lions tour of Australia.

Since then he has become a prominent feature for the national team and scored his second international try in the 41-31 triumph over Argentina in the opening 2014 Autumn Test.

Injury curtailed his availability for the 2015 RBS 6 Nations and, in the most part, Summer Tests, however he had done enough to merit inclusion in the 31-man Scotland squad for the Rugby World Cup 2015, where he featured in four out of five games, scoring against USA and starting against Australia in the quarter-final at Twickenham.

Maitland featured in all 6 Nations tests in 2018 and is becoming one of Scotland's most consistant try-scorers, scoring 3 this campaign.

Through the ranks

Maitland was born in Tokoroa near Hamilton on New Zealand's North Island and attended Hamilton Boys' High School. His cousin is the Australian stand-off Quade Cooper.

He won world titles with New Zealand under-19 and under-20, making his Super Rugby debut in 2008 and scoring 24 competition tries for Canterbury Crusaders, touching down four times in one game in 2011 to equal the single match record.

He then moved to Scotland in autumn 2012, committing to the country of his grandparents, both of whom were born in Glasgow.
