Young Scots beat USA to secure place at JWC 2014

In their fourth match at this year's IRB Junior World Championship, Scotland under-20 defeated their USA counterparts, 39-3, to win through to Sunday's play-off for ninth place and also ensured their place in the tournament in 2014 in New Zealand.

Just over ten years ago Scotland lost a hard-fought Test match against South Africa in Durban, where even the most one-eyed of local support were moved to acknowledge that their home heroes had got out of jail.

Move the clock forward to tonight and the first time the Springboks had played a Test match in Nelspruit and there was that horrible feeling in the pit of the stomach of déjà vu.Once again, Scotland had been unable to post their first Test victory on South African soil.

Three more new caps to face South Africa

After fielding six debutants in last weekend’s Test against Samoa, Scotland have named three more new caps in their team to play South Africa at Nelspruit on Saturday.

They are the Glasgow Warriors trio, full-back Peter Murchie, 27; wing Tommy Seymour, 24; and 26-year-old lock forward Tim Swinson.
