Damien Hoyland

Edinburgh Rugby signed Melrose and Scotland under-20 winger Damien Hoyland on a two-year deal ahead of the 2014/15 campaign.

As part of his development he was called up to the Scotland 7s squad for the Bucharest 7s, part of the Rugby Europe Grand Prix Sevens Series in September 2014, before travelling with the squad to the opening leg of the 2014/15 HSBC Sevens World Series on the Gold Coast, Australia.

He then was involved in the next two legs of the circuit that year, in Dubai and South Africa. The latter of which he scored his first World Series points, with tries against Canada, Fiji, Argentina and USA.

In February 2015, he was named in the Wellington 7s World Rugby dream team, after scoring seven tries, which made him the events top try scorer.

Born and raised in the capital, the former James Gillespie's High School pupil is considered one of the top Scottish prospects to have come through the region’s player pathway while playing for former club, Boroughmuir and attending the rugby performance course at Telford College.
