Matt Smith

Former Stirling High School pupil Matthew Smith is of the renowned Stirling County player production line, with his side lifting the National Youth Cup in 2013.

He is currently a BT Sport Level 3 Academy player, joining in June 2014, and plays for Glasgow Hawks in the BT Premiership.

Smith made one appearance for Scotland under-20 in the 2015 Six Nations, and was called into the squad for the 2016 Championship. The combatative back-row marked his first start for Scotland under-20 with a fantastic indivudual score, to contribute to Scotland's first win over England at under-20 level.

The openside back-row forward, who now studies Electrical Engineering with the Open University, has been part of Scottish Rugby’s pathway programme since the under-17 age-grade.

Sport is clearly in the genes of the Smith family: Matthew’s great grandfather (Alex Smith) was a footballer for Rangers FC, his sister (Hannah) is a capped Scotland rugby internationalist, while Matthew himself is also certificated, advanced open water scuba diver.
