After impressing for Scotland at under-18 level last year, for whom he won four caps, Rory was included in the under-20squad to travel to New Zealand for the 2014 IRB Junior World Championship and played in the non cap warm-up matches in May against Ireland and Wales, scoring a conversion in the latter game.
He made his international debut off the bench against South Africa in the opening match of the 2014 IRB Junior World Championship, kicked a penalty against Samoa, converted all three tries in the 9-12 play-off win over Italy and added two further conversions in the 9/10 play-off against Argentina.
Hutchinson occupied the ten jersey for all five games of the 2015 Six Nations Championship, in which Scotland under-20 recorded their highest ever tournament finish of third.
He was selected for his second World Rugby Under-20 Championship, formerly the IRB Junior World Championship, in 2015 making an impact in all of Scotland under-20s' five games.
A former pupil at Felsted School, he joined Northampton Saints from Shelford RFC, having represented Cambridshire, Eastern Counties and the Scottish Exiles.
