Ruairi Joseph Patrick Howarth, a product of Gala and Galashiels Academy, has represented Scotland and Borders at under-16, under-17, under-18 and under-20 levels.

Howarth scored his first try for Scotland under-20, at his home ground, Netherdale, in the age-grade's emphatic 45-0 victory over Italy.

He went on to make two starting appearances in the World Rugby Under-20 Championships in 2015, against New Zealand and Ireland.

The versatile back is a BT Sport Level 3 Academy player associated with Edinburgh Rugby, and has represented the capital side’s reserve squad on several occasions. He last gained representative honours for Scotland under-18 at the FIRA-AER European Championships in Poland, in 2014.

He currently plays for Gala in the BT Premiership and is a former member of the Borders Elite Development football team, and local soccer side Gala Fairydean.
